Year 5

THE SECRET BERRIES

by Jasmine

Shimmering, shining, glistening snow,

sat upon the secret berries.

As wonderful as a sparkling mane

sat in the sun.

Surprise, with a blanket of snow,

a jumping winter wonderland;

as hidden as a secret.

It's a hidden gettaway for all that's small.

As sparklinmg as glitter

is a luxurious bed covered in snow.

As peaceful as the night,

while secret animals sleep.

I CAN DESCRIBE A SETTING

by Kaya W

Century's ago in ancient China lived Cheng.  Unpleased, Cheng was not allowed to go outside the pagoda gates.  The pagoda was made out of solid gold.  Everywhere you could smell incense from the worshipping room.  Their garden was the most beautiful place you have ever seen: they had amazing, colourful flowers and a sky blue lake nearly as long as the Great Wall of China.

I looked after the garden with no help from my dad.  There were loads of animals, birds in the trees, goldfish in the lake and all the others just running around.  Every morning I wake up from the birds singing their songs.

I woke up from my dad shouting.  He is always shouting!  He is the reason I'm not allowed outside the gates.  He is so cruel.  I wonder who he is shouting at now?  The poor animals must get scared.

THE OZONE LAYER

The Effects of Pollution on the Ozone Layer

by Charlie H:

People are breaking the ozone layer by all of this pollution, like:

  • cutting down trees;
  • cars using too much petrol;
  • people using to many deodorant and perfume;
  • using powerplants and smoking.

Soon, the ozone layer will break and then we will have too much heat.  It will be so hot that nothing will be able to live here.  Skin cancer will kill may people.  Fish are dying because their food is dying away. One day the sun will explode from doing too much work!

The Greenhouse Effect

by Jake A:

The ozone layer protects the earth, but if holes form in the ozone layer the heat will get through, and it will be so hot!  If the sun's heat gets through the ozone layer and hits the water, sea creatures will get killed and this will corrupt the food chain.

The Ozone Layer

by Molly:

The effects of pollution on the ozone layer:

  • The sun is coming through the holes because of using petrol and hair spray, and other things like that.
  • It can cause damage to your skin.  This is called skin cancer.
  • It can do a lot of damage to your eyes, because you are looking at the sun and the sun is becoming more powerful.

The Greenhouse Effect

by Georgia:

When you drive a car all the gas and petrol come out of the bottom of the car and go up to the ozone layer.  The gases from hair spray and deodorant also do this.  When we cut down trees it also affects it because trees give us oxygen to make us breath.  Ehen there are so many holes the ozone will burn away and we will burn!

I CAN USE THE CORRECT PUNCTUATION

by Oliver:

"Hello," whispered Greg.

"You look tired," muttered Martin.

"Can I come in?" asked the man.

"No!" screamed the man.

"Come here!" panted Grandma, "I want to see how much you have grown."

"Run!" shouted Sally, "The dog is after us!"

I CAN WRITE A MYSTERY STORY OPENER (USING SIMILIES)

by Jake:

One dark night a porter was closing up the museum when something flashed in front of his eyes. Earlier that evening, he had seen lots of broken glass scattered on the floor and foorprints in the hallway.  He heard a clatter of armour and then a smash, which sounded like a thousand marbles crashing to the ground.  Thinking hard he tried to think of one because he was really scared.

The clock struck twelve, and a grey car came screeching and skidding down the street.  It pulled up outside of Iggy Innocent's house.  At once Callum Courageous pulled on this detective stuff.  Meanwhile, out of the van two men guiltily jumped.....

Suddenly the clock struck midnight, as the storm came.  Ashley screamed and ran down from the treehouse.  By then lightning started roaring through the sky.  Ashley heard a rustling of the bush.  Mylo shot out.  Mylo is the naughtiest person in the neighbourhood.

Ashley got more scared by the minute.  She ran to the backdoor, but it was locked.  Quickly, Ashley opened the door and hid in there.  Violently, Mylo SMASHED and BASHED the garage door.  Bravely, Ashley remained calm and ran out the other door and sneaked into her house, then sat down by the fire.

Emily looked around the horrid hall.  It was 10.00 pm.  All she could hear was the dripping of the pipes.  Suddenly, she heard muttering come from behind her.

As she walked on, Emily found a room filled with priceless treasures.  Calmly, she moved them around.  They felt like glass. They smelt like...

"Urgh," groaned a voice.  "Help me!"

Emily Nice helped her up.  She knew who this was!  It was Alice Nice.  Her sister!

"Where am I?" asked Alice.

"Crowless Hall.  You remember - it's deserted," she replied.

They were walking along the corridor gingerly, when they saw something very suspicious.  Green, glowing footprints!

A TUDOR THIEF

by Finn

"Chickens! Get your chickens here! Pig heads!  Get your pig heads here!"

"Oh please be quiet.  Can't a thief get some rest!" exclaimed Tim, as he woke up from the noise of the market, that got carried by the wind over the great stretch of field.

"It's not the market that's going to be making the noise, it's going to be the whip on your back! And believe me, it won't be very nice," boomed a very croaky voice.  "I know you stole the crown jewels last night."

"But I didn't!"

"Oh, you didn't, did you?  Then what are these? (holding up a bag of jewels)

"You are a thief, so I hereby arrest you of thievery."

"Ouch.  Do you rich Tudors have to be so cruel and so mean to all us outlaws?"

"Shut your mouth, or I will arrest you for talking too much."

"Where are we going, anyway? Oh. Oh. We're going to the tower of blood."

"Shut it, or else."

"I bet we are.... Ouch.  A trap door!  I think this is my way out of here (lifting up the trapdoor).  "Yes!  I am free!"

"Ah! Ah! Ah! Surely you didn't think you could get away that easily, did you!"

It was that at that moment that I first looked around at where I was; the place where every criminal dreaded of going.  The very name sent shivers down by whipped, broken and blood-stained cut back.  The place where Fat Hen Henry Copper Nose Big Hen lived - Hampton Court.  I've heard stories about this place.  'I was told that any thief that goes in never comes out alive and that's exactly what happened to me!'

MY REPORT BECOMES A STORY

by Jasmine

On 5th May, 2011, my terapin - Hugo - got out of his tank, at one-o-clock in the morning with his water suit.  On Hugo's way he met up with his friend, Mr. Ladybird.  Hugo and Mr. Ladybird set off on their hunt for the golden key.

An hour later they were almost there.  Hugo wanted to swimming, but his water suit wet him and he felt a lot better.n  Whilst Hugo and Mr. Ladybird were on the hunt for the golden key, they had to tackle some really hard things, like crawling through the jungle (the big bushes) and fighting with other animals.

Later on, that early morning, Hugo and Mr. Ladybird reached the end of their goal.  They found the golden key at the end of the big, bushy jungle.  So, they found their way back to their homes, curled up and fell fast asleep!

To discover the meaning of the golden key, just ask Jasmine - in Class 5 - to explain all.
