YEAR 6 HOMEWORK

Guidelines: Homework in Class 6 will primarily reinforce the skills pupils have been learning in Literacy and Numeracy lessons.  On occasion, homework will focus on current news or other subject specific topics.

Homework is set on Friday and the deadline for handing in work is Wednesday.  If pupils hand in homework early on Monday or Tuesday they earn 3 House Points and if they hand it in on Wednesday they earn 2 House Points, (subject to all tasks being completed!)  Pupils are allowed a day's grace to hand in their homework and as a result will only receive 1 House Point.  Pupils who hand in their homework on Friday receive 0 House Points, whilst those who fail to hand in any homework will catch up on the work missed on Friday lunchtime.

Spellings - Class 6

The purpose of setting spellings in Class 6 is to achieve the following objectives:

·   To help pupils spell a wide range of words correctly, so that they can communicate with the world around them.

·   To review spellings that should have been learned prior to Class 6.

·   To provide pupils with strategies to help them find the correct spelling of a word.

·   To prepare pupils for the type of spellings that will be required of them in the SATs test.

Spellings are normally introduced on a Monday and spellings that need to be learned for that week are recorded in their blue spelling book.  The blue spelling book should be taken home so that spellings can be reviewed on a regular basis.  Normally, spellings will be tested on the following Monday.

A variety of strategies are used to reinforce spellings and pupils will be given a range of different spellings appropriate to their ability.  Normally there will be ten spellings to learn.
